The Day of the Triffids is spectacular science fiction classic. Written in 1951, it loses little of it’s gripping and horrifying impact over the years.

Bill Mason awakens in hospital, eyes still bound and recovering from injury, feeling the sharp pang of regret from missing a spectacular meteor shower the previous evening. He discovers a very different world and realised life will never be the same again. The story allows you to slip into Bill’s shadow and cower there while he fights for the survival of humanity.

If I am being honest I would probably have never read it, had it not been for the staff reading group and I would truly have missed out!
