SCQF Ambassador Schools

WHAT IS THE SCQF SCHOOL AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME

The SCQF School Ambassador programme offers schools the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of the SCQF and the wider ways in which it supports learners such as recognising wider achievement, developing Senior Phase learning pathways in line with the Developing the Young Workforce strategy and giving equality between vocational and academic qualifications.

Our Journey

Here at Webster's High School we put the Learner and their journey at the heart of everything we do.  Our Values focus on developing a learning community that strives to respect the rights of our young people to fulfil their potential. To this end, we are committed to supporting and challenging all members of our school community to become successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens. We are committed to creating oppertunities for our young people to develop skills for learning life and work both through Academic and Wider Achivement Qualifications. One way that we have sought to extend this is through our partnership with the SCQF Ambassador Programme

We joined the SCQF School Ambassador programme on the 19th of April 2017 and we have worked collaboratively within our school community to promote the many benefits of being part of the programme.

What have we done to raise awareness of the SCQF with staff/pupil/parents?

Staff: In order to raise awareness about the SCQF initiative to our school community we have participated in CPD events and training with our staff across the school year and on INSET days. Each of our Faculty Heads act as SCQF Ambassadors for their subject areas with our PT PCS and PT Raising Achievement and Depute Head teachers/ Year heads acting in similar capacities to develop what SCQF Qualifications and opportunities are on offer for our young people.

Pupils: We have trained pupils from S4/5/6 as SCQF Ambassadors. They work with or World of work (WoW) Ambassadors and PCS classes to support subject choice. Our S3 junior and S6 Senior Prefects also support Curricular Evenings related to subject choice and the world of work.

Parents: We send home information about the SCQF frameowkr and have incoporated it as part of the COurse choice booklets for all levels that are sent home to help parents support young people. We also update the school app and family learning areas with SCQF information and DYW opportunities.

How have we promoted the principles & benefits of the SCQF

Due to the continued impact of Covid-19, as a school community, we have had to reflect on how we continue to support our young people.

Our website is often the first port of call for our school community and partners. It is important that we continue to share information using this platform about the opportunities. Our website contains access to information and course choice presentations linking the learner pathways to our SCQF journey and how we embed the principles of this within our school.

How have we made changes to our Curriculum

Within our Wider Achivement focus and our Personalised Learning Area our young people have access to a range of SCQF credit rated programmes. These courses aim to offer breadth within our curriculum and provide opportunities for our young people to engage in a number of qualifications. Examples of the courses that we have implemented as a result of our commitment to the SCQF Ambassador Programme include a range of National Progression Awards (NPAs), Level 5 Mental Health and Wellbeing,  Level 5 and 6 Leadership Award and more. We also deliver a number of other qualifications such as Outdoor education, Level 5 SQA Volunteering and SQA Personal Development Awards.

Do you have any plans to engage with the tiered recognition element of the School Ambassador programme?

We are now at the stages of reviewing our status as an Ambassador School and we are excited to continue our journey towards the tiered recognition of the school ambassador programme. Celebrating the success of our school community promotes a positive school ethos and empowers our community and we look forward to gaining recognition through the tiered approach.
