S1 Course Outline
In S1 students will study a range of Business Education units and IT skills. The IT skills is designed to ensure that all pupils can access the whole curriculum with regards to IT which will support them throughout their learning from S1-S6. The students will also be introduced to some Business units which will help scaffold learning as they progress through the school.

S3 Course Outline
Throughout S3 pupils will engage in 3 periods of Business Education. This year will help lay the foundations for continuation to the National 5 course. S3 is a mix of theory and practical work during which the pupils will take part in the cereal box challenge where they give leading brands a run for their money. During S3 the pupils will have a particular focus on local businesses and choose one to study.

National 5 Business Education Course Outline
Assignment – 25% of overall grade
Students will study a small business that is local to them. They will complete market research (both desk and field) in order to gather their data. Students will be given 5 hours in class to write up their assignment which will then be submitted to the SQA for marking.
Written Paper – 75% of the overall grade
Students will answer a 2-hour question paper under exam conditions. The theory paper consists of two case studies with related questions and a set of general questions. Students are required to answer the questions using specific command words which will be taught in class.
Higher Business Education Course Outline
Assignment – 25% of overall grade
Students will study a large business that is of interest to them. They will complete market research (both desk and field) in order to gather their data. Students will be given 8 hours in class to write up their assignment which will then be submitted to the SQA for marking.
Written Paper – 75% of the overall grade
Students will answer a 2 hour 45 minute question paper under exam conditions. The theory paper consists of a case study with related questions and a set of general questions. Students are required to answer the questions using specific command words which will be taught in class.
