National 5 French Course Outline

The Modern Languages Department has complied the following information in order for you to support your young person with preparation towards the Prelims in December and the National 5 examination in May. 

Key Dates

  • Prelim - December
  • Assignment - January
  • Talking Assessment - February/March
  • Qualifications Scotland Exam - May

Assignment - 20 Marks

Preparation in class and then completed under test conditions using a dictionary 

Talking - Duration 6 Minutes (30%)

Learners are to deliver a presentation on a topic of their choice lasting 1 minute 30 seconds.

They will then have to maintain a discussion on the topic for a further 4 minutes 30 seconds.

Reading and Writing - 1 Hour 30 Minutes Exam (40%)

Reading (30%)

  • Learners read three texts and answer questions in English

 

Writing (20%)

  • Learners should ensure that they are familiar with their 6 bullet points which have been prepared and practised in class prior to the Prelims and May exams 
  • Always use a dictionary to check spelling, accents and verb tenses

 

Listening - 30 Minutes Exam (20%)
